My Retirement from Romans

Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.
All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.

— Ecclesiastes 1:4-7

Ave, Romans. This will be my final post on the Romans site.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ray, and I am a Romans leader. As a Roman Legate, I lead alongside Smurf, Nardo, and Cobra, specifically. I have been leading Romans since January 11, 2018, and I’ve done my best to improve the Romans while serving as Legate.

(Read more to read my letter of resignation, etc.)

I joined the army community way back in the summer of 2014, when I served under the Dark Warriors. I wasn’t anything special back then, just another name on their Ranks page. By the end of that summer, I had been removed from said page without my knowledge (at the time, I wasn’t really aware of how armies worked).

But with Romans, all of that changed. I joined the Romans in October of 2017, and I quickly fell in love with the army, its leaders, its members, and everything about it. From its rich history to its immersive, family-like community, to the invaluable friends I’ve made while serving in Romans, this army is like a home to me, and always will be.

After joining the Romans, I quickly ascended the ranks, going from Recruit to Legionary in 26 days, from Legionary to Veteran Legionary in 6 days, from Vet. Legionary to Optio (jumping past Decanus & Vet. Decanus) in 9 days, from Optio to Centurion in 5 days, from Centurion to Prefect [3ic] in 4 days, from Prefect to Tribune [2ic] in 20 days, and from Tribune to Legate [1ic] in 10 days.

  • In 80 days (or 2 months, 2 weeks, and 5 days), I went from simply attending events to actually leading them.

More information about my CP Army Career can be read here:

It’s been a rough ride for Romans, as of late. Our leadership and officership has taken several major low blows, from Nardo’s “death” and Smurf’s departure to focus on the Kings army, as well as Khevra’s retirement, and a majority of the officers having been fired from the army for inactivity and insubordination since the merge with DKE.

Despite all this, I am not retiring because the going is getting tough for us Romans. I promised myself I would never give up on this army, and I have yet to break that promise, because I never have and never will. As for why I’m retiring: I am sadly failing two classes right now in school, and as I’m going to be graduating next year, I can’t afford to spend more time doing anything else but addressing these problems of mine.

I want to point out, though, that this does not mean that I will be leaving Romans. I will still stay in the Discord, I will still contribute to discussions, and I will still attend events and hype whenever I am able to, despite no longer being an active member of the army.

It’s been 49 days since I’ve been installed as leader of Romans. That’s 7 full weeks. And these 7 weeks have been the most influential, the most inspiring, and the most amazing time of my Club Penguin life and my army career overall. Leading Romans has been an incredible honor – I’ve acquired so much invaluable knowledge, made countless friends, few enemies, some rivals, and tons of comrades. And I’m honestly grateful that I was able to serve you all as leader for so long. I will continue to support the Romans until the very end, my friends. This army means so much more to me than just an army. It has been a real community, that I’ve been given the opportunity to experience. It has been a real family to me: Dj, Twitchy, Ant, Flame, Smurf, Cobra, Nardo, Yuli, Khevra, Eden, Lucio, Rock, Cookky, Mason, Hype, Chawwh, Marquis, Juancho, Brown, Estrella, and the rest of you… I love you all. I am grateful for having met and become friends with you lads. May we all seize the glorious night together, as brothers and sisters in arms, forever and for Rome!

Smurf. He was my mentor. He was the first person to believe in me, right from the very beginning. Told me I’d be a great leader someday, and after our first conversation, he even told me that he wanted to promote me to Legate right then and there. Perhaps he was joking around at the time, even if he was impressed with our conversation. Even still, Smurf was the one who taught me things like analyst moderation, how to properly lead events, how to recruit, how to train troops, etc. I promised I’d carry on his legacy when he retired, and as he is now retired, I hope I’ve done my best. I’m sorry to have retired early, old sport. Thank you for everything you’ve done to transform me into the leader I am today.

Ulysses Nardo. You were often mocked for being a “retardo”, but I still believed in you, buddy. I’m proud of you and all you’ve done to build Romans up to where we were at, before you left us. I hope you make a return in time to see the Romans once more, old friend. Thank you for debating with me, giving me knowledge to feast on, and showing me that there’s much more to know and learn about in this world than meets the eye. Thank you for all your memes, too. #NeverForgetNardo

SavageCobra. It’s you and me, buddy. The end of the line is here for us Romans, and you and I are the last two leaders to cross that finish line. Retiring together, vying for Legends together, leading together, and just hanging out in general, you’re a good lad man. Take care of yourself, brother. Let’s see if we can’t go on for one more round, one last time, someday soon.

YuliChxn. You were a genuine gem. You are among one of my favorite officers of this generation, and I hope you go on to do great, beautiful things with your life and as you grow up, grow older, and grow wiser in all your ways. Thank you for unapologetically being yourself and being plain awesome.

Chawwh. You were freakin’ awesome, too. Sad that you weren’t as active as the rest of us, but nonetheless, you were an all-around lovely person. We should honestly talk some more.

HyperStar. You hyped often, you performed well, and you got along well with the officers and leaders. You’re my best friend, and I’m glad I was able to convince you to serve in Romans. I hope you stick around for whatever’s next to come, and that you’ll join me when the time comes to start a new adventure.

Twitchy543. The Emperor I’m most familiar with, and whom I highly respect and admire when it comes to armies and armies’ past. Most of my knowledge on the history of armies comes from you, and you’ve inspired me to keep pushing in everything I do in this community with your words of both praise, and of criticism, where it is due. I hope that one day I may be able to lead under you again. Thank you for all your wisdom and all your support.

Djgtjvgyhxgy. The Emperor I first served under. You yelled a lot, but you did it for the good of the army. Thank you for everything, and for not “mercy killing” Romans way back when it was brought up, lol.

Antonio960. You’re like my second mentor, Ant. You’re just as knowledgeable as Twitchy, and that’s proven itself to be an invaluable resource. You’re a great person, a great Consul, and I’m glad to have befriended you. Gracias por todo, mi amigo.

Mason. I’m glad we ended up being friends in the end, man. From helping you find the words to fight for what you believe in, to assisting you and the UMA in the war against the EGCP. Keep on keeping on, mate.

Eden. Thank you for being a Romans officer, and for being a level-headed, grounded man of wisdom when I needed it. There were times when I wasn’t sure if I fully knew what to do in a situation, because I’m fairly new to armies. Through those times, you helped me out, and I’m glad you did. I hope you keep on being a great person.

The Roman Family. This one goes out to the rest of you, whom I may not have mentioned by name, because there’s a lot of y’all. I want y’all to know that I love y’all so much. Romans, to me, is more than just an army, or even a community. We are a family. The bonds we’ve made and the memories and laughs we’ve shared transcend anything we’ve done as an “army” alone. I will always look back upon Romans and smile knowing I was a part of this grand and glorious family. You are all treasures and I hope you all do awesome things with your lives. I’ll talk to you all later, on the Discord.

This is Ray the Hokage, signing off
